Impact Stories

Providing high standard hygienic facilities to students

Redington collaborated with WASH Institute to transform the Uluberia Municipality’s hygiene facilities, which included various schools with washrooms in dire conditions. WASH Institute found that children in these schools had no access to improved and functional Water, Sanitation and Hygiene facilities.

These conditions forced students, especially girls to discontinue the use of washrooms. A number of girls started skipping school because of unhygienic toilet block. Girls also stopped drinking water and started holding urine for long period of time. Holding urine for such a long period is not a good practice and might lead to serious health issues.

Child Cabinet Members actively participated to build sanitary blocks for schools with a change room installed with a manual sanitary napkin vending machine & electric incinerator. The purpose of this drive was to cause a behaviour change in girls who were struggling with hygiene issues.

Boosting education with tech-based Foundational Literacy Numeracy (FLN) tabs

Redington along with Learning Link Foundation has worked to enable better learning among school students. Students, especially those who were impacted by Covid-19 and needed extra help & assistance in basic subjects used technology-based FLN tabs. These tabs equipped with applications like read along for Tamil and Tux Maths app helped many underprivileged students overcome challenges and learn conveniently.

Prior to the implementation of the FLN Tab project, many students struggled with identifying basic numbers from 1-10, reading Tamil letters and doing basic addition. Students who faced a roadblock in their education due to Covid-19 were suffering from a lack of confidence in their classes.

After the FLN Tab project was introduced, students are showing progress and improvement in both of these subjects. Withing a few months of the project, students gained confidence and started to show increasing interest in studying these subjects.

LSC – Redington Smart Learning Center – Guindy making dreams come true

Through various skill training projects, LSC – Redington Smart Learning Center – Guindy has been helping young adults suffering from dwarfism build a better future in the field of Supply Chain Management. Students who were estranged by all the teasing and bullying by peers found a supportive and inclusive study/training environment with LSC – Redington Smart Learning Center – Guindy. Students were provided with a laptop upon their enrollment. Over a period of time, they were taught soft skills and hard skills related to logistics management. The center has helped many such individuals bag jobs in companies like Bluedart and Med plus by providing them with a free course and 100% placement assurance by building their confidence with mock interview sessions & employability sessions.
